Here at Mollymook Beach Surf School we teach surfing to people from first time beginners through to advanced surfers wanting to take it to the next level. With group and private lessons available, we’ll help you meet your goals, whether it be simply standing and riding a surfboard to the beach, trimming and turning, tube riding or busting the latest manoeuvre.
Our instructors go through a rigorous training program, which includes Senior First Aid, Surf Rescue certification by the APOLA (the same guys who train the professional lifeguards as seen on Bondi Rescue) and Level 1 or higher surfing coaching accreditation. All our instructors male and female love to surf and know the special feeling of riding great waves. They are all fun, friendly and are committed to your safety, enjoyment and surf education.
Group Classes – 2 Hours
Our group classes are great fun for friends and families wanting to share the experience of learning to surf. There are always plenty of laughs, thrills and spills, joyous and triumphant moments to share as part of a group. It’s also a fantastic place to meet new people who share your sense of adventure, as an individual you are most welcome to join a group class.
All of our group classes have a maximum ratio of 8 students per instructor so you all get plenty of one on one time. For the younger kids we make the group size 6 or less so we can give further assistance and they can start their surfing experience with confidence. Kids aged eight or younger need adult supervision, as a parent or carer you are most welcome to join in on the lesson.
Private Classes – 2 Hours
Private lessons are ideal for one or two students looking for the instructors undivided attention. The lessons also range from beginner to advanced and we are more able to target your specific needs.Its a great idea for couples, you can get your partner a Gift Card and then surprise them on the day when you join in on the fun!
A lot of competent surfers have found these lessons very useful, we take you to the best surf spot on the day, paddle out with you, show you the line-up and then observe as you catch a few waves, then instruct on ways to improve your technique and get you to that next level.
This is our most popular course and is suited to first-time beginners or those seeking to refresh or refine their basic technique. To build up your knowledge and confidence, we first start you out on the beach and teach you how to recognize surf conditions and practice your surfing technique before you get into the water. Then it’s off into the ocean, where you start off in broken waves – the white foam created after the waves have broken. You’ll be amazed at how easy, safe and enjoyable it can be to learn to surf.
Some of the things you will learn include;
- Surf awareness and safety
- Sport-specific warm-ups and stretches
- Paddling techniques
- Catching waves
- Standing up
- Stance and riding to the beach
- Equipment selection advice
The program focuses on teaching the skills of surfing and how to handle yourself and your surfboard in the ocean.
We have a stack of fun on the way. You can do one lesson or 10, it is up to you as everyone is different. You can do group lessons or private lessons or both. Our instructors are there to help you learn and provide advice on all questions related to surfing. As instructors we love our jobs. We hope that you will love surfing as much as we do.
