All lessons are 2 hours in duration except for single person private lessons which are 1.5 hours.
Kids prices are for ages 16 and under. Kids aged 8 and under in group lessons may require your added adult supervision.
If you are looking for more than just a surf lesson, look into our Bush Surfaris surf adventure where we take you on a day trip around the beautiful South Coast!
Our instructors go through a rigorous training program, which includes Senior First Aid, Surf Rescue certification by the APOLA (the same guys who train the professional lifeguards as seen on Bondi Rescue) and Level 1 or higher surfing coaching accreditation. All our instructors male and female love to surf and know the special feeling of riding great waves. They are all fun, friendly and are committed to your safety, enjoyment and surf education. Our instructors are there to help you learn and provide advice on all questions related to surfing. As instructors we love our jobs and hope that you will love surfing as much as we do.
This is our most popular course and is suited to first-time beginners or those seeking to refresh or refine their basic technique. The program focuses on teaching the skills of surfing and how to handle yourself and your surfboard in the ocean. To build up your knowledge and confidence, we first start you out on the beach and teach you how to recognize surf conditions and practice your surfing technique before you get into the water. Then it’s off into the ocean, where you start off in broken waves – the white foam created after the waves have broken. You’ll be amazed at how easy, safe and enjoyable it can be to learn to surf.
Some of the things you will learn include:
- Surf awareness and safety
- Sport-specific warm-ups and stretches
- Paddling techniques
- Catching waves
- Standing up
- Stance and riding to the beach
- Equipment selection advice
You can choose from group or private classes (or both) for beginner lessons. You can do one lesson or 10- it is up to you as everyone is different.
Group Classes (2 Hours)
Our group classes are great fun for friends and families wanting to share the experience of learning to surf. There are always plenty of laughs, thrills and spills, and joyous and triumphant moments to share as part of a group. It’s also a fantastic place to meet new people who share your sense of adventure, where as an individual you are most welcome to join a group class.
All of our group classes have a maximum ratio of 8 students per instructor so you all get plenty of one on one time. For the younger kids we make the group size 6 or less so we can give further assistance and they can start their surfing experience with confidence. Kids aged eight or younger need adult supervision, and as a parent or carer you are most welcome to join in on the lesson.
Private Classes (1.5-2 Hours)
Private lessons are ideal for one or two students looking for the instructor’s undivided attention. These lessons also range from beginner to advanced and we are more able to target your specific needs. It’s a great idea for couples- you can get your partner a Gift Card and then surprise them on the day when you join in on the fun!
A lot of competent surfers have found these lessons very useful. We take you to the best surf spot on the day, paddle out with you, show you the line-up and then observe as you catch a few waves, before instructing you on ways to improve your technique and get you to that next level.
