What is a Bush Surfari?

Its a surf safari through some of the most beautiful, natural, forested landscapes to pristine secluded beaches for beginner to intermediate surfers. Bush Surfaris are a tradition and much loved part of surfing culture. When the conditions just aren’t cutting it at your home break or when your wanderlust simply takes over, it’s time for a Surfari. We’ll pack the van with boards and buddies and hit the road on a day-trip adventure in search for that perfect wave.

Where do we go?

Bush Surfaris take you to the surf rich coast of the Shoalhaven on the South Coast of NSW. We take you to the best, most suitable locations each day to surf, according to conditions of swell, wind, tide and sandbank formations.  We take you to beaches that are suitable for learning and progressing your surfing skills and style. You may feel you are at a secret location or a hidden paradise as often we will be the only ones on the beach and in the surf. We leave the hard core waves & secret spots to the local surfers as we respect that they have spent years and even their lifetimes exploring, waiting, watching and discovering their own slice of heaven.

What do we do?

You meet us at the Bush Surf Company’s Ulladulla shop and jump on the bus and leave all your worries behind for the day. We will look after you and make sure you have heaps of fun, see lots of cool sites and get up close with the wildlife. You will be transported by a spacious 4WD, VW bus along the coast, through the forests and along dirt tracks to amazing secluded beaches and lookouts.

You will have two surf sessions, each at a different beach with professional instructors teaching you everything from the basics up to an intermediate level. Your driver and guide will also show you native flora, fauna, geological landscapes, lookouts and general information on Aboriginal and recent history. Lunch is included BBQ style with vegetarian and restaurant options also available.

What will we see?

You will see some of the best coastline Australia has to offer, parts of which most visitors drive straight past and never discover the hidden treasures that abound. You will see beautiful beaches, crystal clear waters, old growth forests, tall trees, ferns and wild flowers, kangaroos, dolphins and many varied and colourful birds.

Along the coast you may also see whales, seals, penguins, sea eagles, osprey and many other sea birds.  In the bush you may also see wombats, wallabies, koalas, echidnae, bandicoots, poteroos, lyrebirds, quoll, possums and gliders. In the air keep an eye out for kookaburras, glossy black cockatoos, peregrine falcons, wedge-tailed eagles, hawks, parrots, rainbow lorikeets and crimson rosellas. On the ground are reptiles including snakes, bearded dragons, goannas and lizards. The creeks and lakes contain platypus, long-necked tortoises, frogs, many varieties of fish and an abundance of water birds.

Who do we go with?

Your guides are all locally based surfers/naturalists who are passionate about the coast where they live and want to share with you the joy of surfing in such a beautiful and untouched environment. Experience really counts along this varied and ever-changing coastline so having a local guide who has been exploring this bush and surf paradise for most of their lives is absolutely priceless. Your fellow surfari companions will be like-minded, adventurous travellers both international and national, as this is where Aussies love to holiday. It’s also easy to book an exclusive tour with just your friends and family with the small group size of up to 8 people maximum.

How long does it go?

It’s a day tour for 8 hours that leaves at 9am from Ulladulla and returns you back by 5pm. There is 4 hours of surfing time, an hour for lunch and relaxation, approximately an hour of driving which is broken into smaller trips throughout the day and the rest of the time is exploring nature at its best, taking photos and interacting with the wildlife.

What’s included and how much is it?
