DETAILS

Here at Mollymook Beach Surf School we give tips to beginner surfers up to advanced. Our experienced surf instructors teach surfing to people from first time beginners through to advanced surfers wanting to take it to the next level. With group and private lessons available, we’ll help you meet your goals, whether it be simply standing and riding a surfboard to the beach, trimming and turning, tube riding or busting the latest maneuver while having a stack of fun along the way.

BEGINNER LESSONS

This is our most popular course and is suited to first-time surf beginners or those seeking to refresh or refine their basic technique. The program focuses on teaching the skills of surfing and how to handle yourself and your surfboard in the ocean. We give tips for beginner surfers and build up your knowledge and confidence. We first start you out on the beach and teach you how to recognize surf conditions and practice your surfing technique before you get into the water. Then it’s off into the ocean, where you start off in broken waves – the white foam created after the waves have broken. You’ll be amazed at how easy, safe and enjoyable it can be to learn to surf.

Some of the things you will learn:

  • Surf awareness and safety
  • Sport-specific warm-ups and stretches
  • Paddling techniques
  • Catching waves
  • Standing up
  • Stance and riding to the beach
  • Equipment selection advice

You can choose from group or private classes (or both) for beginner lessons. You can do one lesson or 10 – it is up to you as everyone is different.

WHICH CLASS IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

GROUP CLASS

2 Hours

Our group classes are great fun for friends and families wanting to share the experience of learning to surf. There are always plenty of laughs, thrills and spills, and joyous and triumphant moments to share as part of a group. It’s also a fantastic place to meet new people who share your sense of adventure, where as an individual you are most welcome to join a group class.

All of our group classes have a maximum ratio of 8 students per instructor so you all get plenty of one on one time. For the younger kids we make the group size 6 or less so we can give further assistance and they can start their surfing experience with confidence. Kids aged eight or younger need adult supervision, and as a parent or carer you are most welcome to join in on the lesson.

PRIVATE CLASS

1.5 – 2 Hours

Private lessons are ideal for one or two students looking for the instructor’s undivided attention. These lessons also range from beginner to advanced and we are more able to target your specific needs. It’s a great idea for couples – you can get your partner a Gift Card and then surprise them on the day when you join in on the fun!

A lot of competent surfers have found these lessons very useful. We take you to the best surf spot on the day, paddle out with you, show you the line-up and then observe as you catch a few waves, before instructing you on ways to improve your technique and get you to that next level.

Many first-time surfers will book private lessons until they learn to stand up, before joining group classes.
